Series Title: Victorian Inferno, 2009
Group Exhibition: Exit Art, 2009
Exhibition Venue: Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, NT
Artist Statement
The impact of the Victorian bushfires on Australia was huge. Loss of life and property caused broken homes and families. It’s threatening magnitude and enormous destruction was incomprehensible, dominating the media and causing emotional upset across the country. In reflection on the apparently “natural” disaster, I tried to depict its uncontrollable, swirling energy and express its vastness.
Described by the NT News paper, this 'set of charcoal and ink works captures and radiates the heat, fury and magnitude of the victorian bushfires. The effect is all ecompassing, while short, sharp brush strokes convey speed and intensity of the fires as they progressed.' 1
